Two Ways Together is the current exhibition staged by the Boomalli Aboriginal Artists Co-operative in Sydney, a blended show of established Aboriginal artists and emerging Aboriginal artists. Young and old have come together to present their artwork to the wider public as a united group of New South Wales Aboriginal language group descendants. The works on exhibit ranges from colonisation from an Aboriginal perspective, to weaving, and a floor installation to describe just a few.

Nicole Monks is an artist who concentrates on a series of interactive and performance works based around the phenomenology of space and connection to place. Nicole has created a floor installation in this exhibition with collected earth from her country and she created it along with her mother Jenine Boeree.

Visit Mother is a spiritual piece to bring people closer to respecting mother earth. They collected earth from Yamatji wadjarri country, their country in Western Australia.

Nicole explains “We both start by walking in a circle and connecting the energy within the space, then my mother lays me down and scatters the earth around me. She then lifts me and the form is left and we then complete the circle together. Once this is complete we then draw only with our fingertips the outline around the circle and figure and then fill in the centre with patterns that reflect how we are feeling. The ephemeral nature of the work symbolises the delicate balance of nature and how easily it can be destroyed. The work is to awaken people to the beauty of what they are walking on everyday and the need to preserve it.”
