Well if swimwear fashion is your thing then you should have been at the recent Miami Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim. If supermodels are also your thing then seeing them parade up and down the runway in next to nothing, then front row would have been paradise on steroids.
I must admit I thought swimwear fashion had gone as far as it could go creative wise but I was mostly mistaken and pleasantly surprised by the innovatively cut two and one pieces on display and the clever use of various materials derived from rubber. John Sutcliffe’s 1960s cat suit designed for The Avengers Emma Peel character – eat your heart out.
My favourite designers at this year’s show was the Dolores Cortes ‘Jungle Punk’ collection and in their own words, “Seen through creative bikinis, one pieces and radical formed monokinis comes this aggressively bold collection inspired by exotic worldwide jungles and punk icons. It comes together by a fusion of bold graphics, lush tropical plants, fierce animal prints and all adorned with an extravaganza of gold spikes and studs, fringe and 3D floral details.” Very in tune with their South American roots.

Mara Hoffman’s tribal designs were on trend and could easily be worn anywhere from Ibiza to Bondi. I could see myself floating in the turquoise waters of the Greek Islands in one of her designs.

Minimale Animale’s bondage meets biker designs were certainly in the different is interesting category. Biker helmets on bikini models – may be overkill in my books.

Maybe a few more of the models could have had a smile on their faces, they were probably just hungry, but they were certainly swimsuit ready, unfortunately something I’m not!
