Bret Harding
I find myself longing for the day long since passed – when I could multi task on items of interest rather than this latest bout of ‘where’s my keys?’, ‘how is it my turn to cook and clean up on the same night?’ Amongst a myriad of other bits a pieces I was up for this week was the column I was supposed to submit several days ago with at least some tenuous connection to the subject of music. Here goes.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote at length of my excitement at the chance to see Bruce Springsteen live again at the Computer Company Arena, in the Olympic Park complex. Rather than wobble on about what he did and didn’t do, suffice to say the punters left satisfied – again in excess of 3 hours and a level of professional musicianship I am not sure will ever be bested. Okay maybe a little on content and then a rather amazing little fillip for those who wanted to hear the 3/4 of Bruce’s greatest hits that night but didn’t.
Firstly, as you may have discerned, Bruce and friends did not bring 3/4 of their greatest hits with them. At first glance, an issue. However, the night was not without its charms – the show opened with a cracking cover of The Easybeats Friday on my Mind and ran for another 3 hours and 5 minutes – including a full run through of one of my favourite Bruce albums, Darkness on the Edge of Town. Gripping stuff.
Now for the fillip I alluded to earlier – if you walked away from a Bruce concert during the recent tour wanting to have heard all the best – but didn’t – fear not – Bruce has delivered in a way I didn’t think possible in these megastar times – visit the following lengthy link and SHAZAMM!!!! you can download concerts – in their entirety – from the recent South Africa and Australia tours for around $10!!
Excellent quality and all the songs you wanted and or missed or just enjoyed so much that you want to keep them forever are there.
