Preparing and presenting a weekly radio show (as I have had the good fortune to do for the last 6 odd years) afforded the opportunity of listening to a huge range of music. Yet so often, in the quieter moments, I found my mind and ears wandering back to the one band to rule them all – and to the feeling that – for whatever reason – John Paul George and Ringo (JPGR) hadn’t finished what they had started. So I thought I would tidy it up for them.

Here. Now. Magic pen (wand) in hand ….. tick. Suspension of rational thought process …. tick. Here goes …. The Beatles still meet the Maharishi – but develop actual interpersonal skills. JPGR discover how to interpret feedback in a useful way. Everybody stays friends. George Martin shows remarkable insight in steering the boys away from the whole Magical Mystery Tour shindig and from releasing all the crappy songs that made The White Album so … um. The album is still released to universal acclaim – as a single LP (kids, ask your parents what an LP is – they may still have one or two in the cupboard under the stairs).

The Let It Be concept works. The album is still released after Abbey Road (mainly because I hadn’t thought this part through) and the roof top concert features all of the songs on the album. It is a triumph. Everyone gets along and all the songs the boys pull together are strong: John – Across the Universe, Power to the People, Give Peace a Chance. Paul – Let it Be, Long and Winding Road, Maybe I’m Amazed, Get Back. George – I Me Mine, For You Blue, My Sweet Lord, What is Life. Ringo – Photograph.

I find myself thinking the boys had at least another couple of albums in them and had they run into me and my magic wand we would’ve had them. Anyway – what to release as a single from my Bret It Be album? (See what I did there …. ) Enjoy Photograph – Ringo Starr on YouTube
