Bret Harding
It’s been some time since I struck a blow with the music bloggering.
Not so much for want of trying but more so because life, the universe and everything became a little overwhelming – such is the modern swirl of emotions for those gainfully employed amongst us utilising fluid personal time management skills.
I’d like to think it’s been because I have this thing about needing to bite off more than I can chew as being the only way of establishing how much is too much – you don’t know what you are truly capable of unless you try and do too much.
That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
In terms of the overwhelmed state – this is not my first rodeo. It usually comes good in its own way in its own time – some ‘whelms’ take longer than others to manage out the door but generally I keep on chewing through the turd sandwiches safe in the knowledge that at some point I can move on to other more clever and/or more useful enterprises.
What’s any of that got to do with music?
Everything; nothing; music for me has always been like some sort of aural toothpaste (see what I did there!); sometimes a song or album or live show was the thing that brought the fresh back into play and from then moving forward (buzz phrase alert) things just seem to move a bit more freely; life would just seem to get easier.
At some level, if there is a form of music out there that has persisted over time it (to me) seems likely that there is someone out there felt gooderer when they tied those sounds together. That he or she did this more than once is presumably so they could show their mates or perhaps to woo a vixen (I think these are the two main reasons; there may be more – I are basically lazy and shallow at some level and haven’t bothered thinking things through to any greater extent).
I digress. There are songs that mean something to me and others that don’t – I’m assuming we each have a pallet or mix that would make it onto a mix tape of one’s life (kids ask your parents).
However, putting on my thinking cap, I quickly realised that there are hundreds if not thousands of songs which could make it onto my ‘tape’ or more currently my mp3 player.
Here’s one. There will be more.
