Nicole Welch’s latest exhibition Apparitions is a stunning example of a modern day artist melding modern photo realism with the work of Victorian landcscape masters. The photographs of her media installations make this Australian artists work unique and some what haunting.

Her floodlit landscapes include the projected works of Australian Romantic landscape painters onto rugged landscapes – escarpments come alive with the art of talented Victorian era painters including works by Nicholas Chevalier, Eugene von Guerard and WC Piguenit.

Nicole painstakingly takes cranes, spotlights, generators, projectors and even candelabras with her on location and sits patiently waiting for the perfect light – dusk and dawn being her favourite. Light only comes from one source and this alone brings a sense of intensity to her work.

In my humble opinion, one word describes Nicole’s art, mesmerizing.
