Elise Hawthorne
Not sure what I’d give my son for his birthday, I remembered he’d enjoyed a photography workshop run by the Aperture Club at a community event a few years ago. Being known in my family as a very average photographer, I tagged along, keen to spend some quality time with my only child and learn a few tips to up my photography game.
A group workshop, in a beautiful city on a sunny autumn Sunday, what’s not to love. The workshop was both engaging and informative, it enabled the participants to flex their creative muscle with a new level of skill.
Arriving at the Queen Victoria Building in the heart of Sydney’s CBD, I was prepared to spend a fun afternoon diving deep into a Smartphone photography workshop taught by professional photographer Sharon Hickey who established the Aperture Club.
We all took interesting, dare I say beautiful photos of the majestic QVB, then moved on trying our hand at street photography around Darling Harbour and then further afield at Barangaroo; all the while supervised and encouraged by Sharon and her assistant Anna.
The Aperture Club runs photography workshops, courses and trips away that allows budding photographers to develop their creativity with like-minded people.
Sharon and her team of professional photographers are passionate about meeting people, travelling and of course, photography.
The Aperture Club photography workshops are run around Glebe, Newtown, Circular Quay and other well kept secret locations around Sydney.
If you’ve always wanted to learn about the art of photography, I would encourage you to do so via the Aperture Club; you won’t regret it.
