3 Aussie mates (Gonzo, Parv & Nick) take to the highways of America to film the “weird, wonderful and inspirational”, Unplanned America is the result. It is a brash look at the United States, the land of the free, where anything is possible.
Chicago the current rap capital of America is the main topic of the episode I landed on; aptly titled The Boyz in the Hood. Chicago rap music or as it is known on the street drill music is aggressive, grim and usually extols the gangster lifestyle. We meet King Louie aka KWGL Rapper, whilst he is shooting his first video clip on the mean streets of Southside Chicago.
King Louie and his sister rapper Sasha Go Hard inspire kids to explore the music scene as a way to bridge the divide across cultural boundaries and encourages them to use their musical talents to make a better life for themselves.
This episode explores the mean streets where being shot is no big deal. Gangster rap reflects the society in which these rappers and their crews inhabit, I for one got to see places I wouldn’t probably dare to visit and enjoyed meeting rappers and hearing their back stories and dreams – it was dope!
Unplanned America then cruised on to Los Angles, where we met street mural artist Addison Karl, another world, more insights.
I enjoyed this road trip, you might too.
